Jason Cook lives and works in Paris, France. He has been actively devoted to the field of art and
technology since 2006 after receiving a diploma in fine arts at
Chicago. He has lived and worked as an artist providing assistance for other artists in many locations
including Quebec, France, and numerous cities across the U.S.A. His material specialization may be
summarized as Physical Computing, a technique of experimenting with sculpture, technology, and
animation. His approach to technology is to understand it as a material, a tool to be learned,
manipulated and hi-jacked for the benefit of the artist. He may be considered a hacker in that he
believes this to be a new and legitimate form of artistry. In his creations he focuses on what may be deemed a “useless”
machine, offering a counterbalance to the common idea that our machines must serve “useful” functions. He seeks to
expose in his work those human poetics most neglected in our common (mis)conceptions of what the machine is supposed
to be. In this way he encourages the spectator and the user to question their own relationship with the machine.
